About Me

Dr. Megan Wilson, EdD, MS

Hi there! Growing up in the vibrant culture of New Orleans, there was an emphasis placed on two things: the pride of our city and sports. My childhood was spent competing in whatever capacity that I could, whether that was in sports such as softball and basketball, or trying to beat my three brothers at absolutely anything. Family has always been and continues to be an anchor in my life.
I have played several sports my entire life with softball being the one I am most passionate about. I was fortunate enough to play in college before I decided to take a different route and join the military. In 2011, I joined the Navy in search of a purpose and to give back. It was here that I really flourished. I made friends from all walks of life, I traveled the world, I committed to furthering my higher education, and I ended up being able to play softball again after all, for the All Navy team! My military experience was quite eclectic as I worked as a diesel mechanic, education specialist, and a recruiter. I was also privileged enough to be able to work with elite special warfare groups such as the Navy Seals. While on active duty, I attended the University of Maryland where I majored in Psychology. After 8 years of Navy active duty, I decided to complete my military service and focus on furthering my education for a career that combined my two passions: sports and psychology.
In 2019, directly after my separation from the military, I attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee where I obtained my master’s degree in Health & Human Performance with a concentration in Leadership & Coaching. It was here that I strengthened my understanding of the mind-body connection. I became extremely immersed in ways that I can help the specific populations of athletes, performers, military, and high-risk occupations from a whole-person perspective. In 2021, I began my journey to becoming a Doctor of Education in Sport & Performance Psychology with the University of Western States. During this time, I also worked with athletes in the recreational Women’s Football Alliance league in Eugene, Oregon.
In 2023, I began working with college athletes across several sports at Tennessee Wesleyan University during my time as an intern for my doctoral program. This hands-on experience with the teams, coaches, and individuals was crucial to my growth as I worked alongside the athletic director, athletic trainers, and graduate interns. Further, I worked virtually with professional soccer athletes that were referred by the administrative staff of my program. I graduated with my Doctor of Education in June 2024.
As you can see from my background, I have lived all over the United States. However, I am most “at home” when I am traveling, particularly abroad! I’ve been able to check off around 45 countries so far! When I’m not working or traveling, you can find me playing sports or enjoying the arts such as theater, documentaries, podcasts, and live music. I am so lucky to have my beautiful wife, Sarah, by my side. We are parents to our adorable fur-baby Sprinkles. I am thrilled to be a part of the MindStrong team!
